Youth Parliament 2010

Youth Parliament 2010 was held on 6 and 7 July.

Every three to four years the Ministry of Youth Development coordinates New Zealand’s Youth Parliament.

Young people were selected by members of Parliament to take part in debates in the Chamber and hold youth select committee meetings.

While the young people were at Parliament they saw first hand how our system of representative democracy works. The youth members of Parliament debated a Youth Parliament Bill during the legislative debate in the Chamber. Select committees conducted inquiries about issues that affect youth in New Zealand.

At the same time a Youth Press Gallery worked alongside their Parliamentary Press Gallery mentors and reported on Youth Parliament 2010.
