26214 (2010). Kelvin Davis to the Minister for Tertiary Education (25 Aug 2010): Does the Ministry have a plan to raise Maori tertiary achievement?
Hon Steven Joyce (Minister for Tertiary Education) replied: Yes. The Ministry of Education’s plan for raising Māori achievement in tertiary education is set out in Ka Hikitia – Managing for Success and the Tertiary Education Strategy 2010/15, which sets a priority of “more Māori enjoying success at higher levels”. To raise achievement at the tertiary level, we expect tertiary education organisations to focus on improving their pastoral and academic support, and adopt teaching practices that are culturally responsive. The Ministry of Education will continue to assess the contributions that Government makes to ensure that it is supporting providers to give effect to these expectations.
