Lynne Pillay to the Minister of Police (includes responsibility for Serious Fraud Office) (09 Feb 2010): Is it Police policy to try dissuade victims of indecent assault from pursuing charges against their attacker; if not, in how many times have Police officers been disciplined for doing so?
Hon Judith Collins (Minister of Police (includes responsibility for Serious Fraud Office)) replied: The Policing Act 2008 requires that decisions on the manner in which Police respond to incidents are operational decisions for the Commissioner of Police. I am advised that Police have very clear policies and guidelines, developed in recognition of the Victims Rights Act 2002, around the management of and respect for victims.
