9018 (2012). Hon Annette King to the Minister of Housing (15 Oct 2012): How many Housing New Zealand properties in the West Coast Tasman region are currently considered earthquake prone, if any?
Hon Phil Heatley (Minister of Housing) replied: Housing New Zealand Corporation advises me that its earthquake prone buildings are categorised into two groups as follows: • Group 1: buildings that are less than 20 percent of the New Building Standard (NBS), requiring earthquake strengthening work and tenants to be relocated to another state rental property within 90-days. • Group 2: buildings that are 20-33 percent of the NBS, requiring strengthening work within 12 months and/or tenants to be relocated to another state rental property within 12 months. Following initial assessments, the Corporation identified two buildings in Greymouth and five buildings in Nelson as potentially earthquake prone in the West Coast Tasman region. Of these, one building in Group 1, consisting of three units, and two buildings in Group 2 have been confirmed as earthquake prone as at 27 September 2012. Of the buildings in Group 1, two units were tenanted. These tenants have all been issued with a 90-day notice to vacate and will be moved within the next 3 months to other state rental properties that meet their needs and any support services they may need to live close to.
