2398 (2010). John Boscawen to the Minister of Research Science and Technology (18 Mar 2010): Further to question for oral answer number four on 16 March 2010, have any terms of reference been set for the review being overseen by Dr Brett Mullan, if so, what are these terms, who was consulted when determining these terms, what is the estimated cost of the review, who approved the review, how many NIWA scientists or staff are likely to work on this review, and will any other agencies (international or domestic) be involved in the review, if so, whom?
Dr Wayne Mapp (Minister of Research Science and Technology) replied: As the Member is aware, my office has offered to organize a briefing from NIWA on these matters for the Member. In response to this specific question, NIWA have provided the following answer: NIWA is developing a workplan for the review. Senior NIWA climate staff are being consulted in developing the work plan and I expect it to be finalised in early April. NIWA expects the review to cost in the order of $70,000. It is likely to involve five or six NIWA scientists at varying levels of effort. NIWA has approached the Australian Bureau of Meteorology to peer review the work and the Bureau has indicated it is willing to do this.
