Hon GERRY BROWNLEE (Leader of the House)
: Yesterday the Business Committee, in its usual deliberations, discussed the matter of the members’ day, which we have today on the Order Paper. Members were slightly exercised on the issue of postponement of bills and what that does to the time available for members to have their issues discussed. I can indicate there is a strong willingness by the Business Committee to ensure that the sort of day we have today does not occur too much in the future. To facilitate this members’ day having a bit more substance, the Business Committee has agreed that leave be sought for the Methodist Church of New Zealand Trusts Bill to be set down for its second reading today as private and local order of the day No. 2, despite Standing Order 287. Accordingly, I seek leave for that to happen.
Mr SPEAKER: Is there any objection to that course of action being followed? There is none.
