The presentation of seven reports was announced.

The Social Security (Youth Support and Work Focus) Amendment Bill was set down for second reading.

The following reports were set down for consideration:

  • Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s Financial Stability Report, May 2012
  • Report from the Controller and Auditor-General, Draft Statement of Intent 2012–15, and Inquiry into Controller and Auditor-General, Draft Statement of Intent 2012–15

The introduction of the Families Commission Amendment Bill was announced and the bill set down for first reading.

The committee resumed consideration of the motion to divide the bill as set out on Supplementary Order Paper No 30 (Hon Dr Jonathan Coleman).

  • Mental Health Commission Amendment Bill
  • Charities Amendment Bill (No 2).

The Chairperson also reported progress on the Commerce Commission (International Co-operation, and Fees) Bill.

The report was adopted and the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Amendment Bill, the Mental Health Commission Amendment Bill, and the Charities Amendment Bill (No 2) were set down for third reading next sitting day.

The Commerce Commission (International Co-operation, and Fees) Bill was set down for further consideration in committee next sitting day.

The Speaker informed the House that a delegation from the National Assembly of Serbia, led by Hon Vuk Jeremic, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was within the precincts of the Chamber.

The Minister and his delegation were welcomed with applause and the Minister was accorded a seat on the left of the Chair.

3. Member’s motion

Resolved, That this House—

  • celebrate the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the New Zealand Nuclear Free Zone, Disarmament, and Arms Control Act
  • reaffirm the commitment of New Zealand to the achievement of a nuclear-weapons-free world
  • welcome the 2010 agreement of States Parties to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that any use of nuclear weapons could create catastrophic humanitarian consequences and that all States must play a role in building the framework for a nuclear-weapons-free world
  • commend Norway for its announcement to hold a conference in 2013 on humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons in order to build political momentum for a global ban, and
  • call on the New Zealand Government to provide its highest support for this conference
