Supplementary Order Papers

Supplementary Order Papers (SOPs) set out proposed amendments to a bill. They may be in the name of a member or a Minister. An SOP may also set out a proposal to divide a bill.

Notices of local and private bills

Local bills apply to a particular locality and may change or limit the effect of the general law in its application to that area. They are promoted by local authorities. The promoter is required to notify the public in the locality and affected persons of the intention to promote the bill.

Private bills provide for the particular interest or benefit of an individual or group of people. They are promoted by a representative of those who will benefit from the bill. The promoter is required to notify the public of the intention to promote the bill. Notices of local and private bills
