Commerce
The committee met on 4 July to consider the Regulatory Reform Bill and the Regulatory Reform (Repeals) Bill, and the Consumer Guarantees Amendment Bill. The committee also considered the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Tourism and Vote Economic Development, as well as the petitions of Mary Schmack, and Allan Hunter, and the report from the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment on Smart electricity meters: How households and the environment can benefit.
The committee was referred the Regulatory Standards Bill on 5 July. The committee has resolved to call for public submissions on this bill with a closing date of 18 August 2011. The bill is due to be reported to the House on 20 October 2011.

The committee met on 6 July to consider further the Education Amendment Bill (No 4) and the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Science and Innovation.
The committee will next meet on 13 July to consider further the 2011/12 Estimates for Votes Education, Vote Education Review Office, and Vote Tertiary Education. The committee will also further consider the Education Amendment Bill (No 4).
Finance and Expenditure

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
The committee met on 7 July to consider the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Customs, and Vote Veterans’ Affairs-Defence Force and Vote Veterans’ Affairs-Social Development, and to consider further aspects of the inquiry into New Zealand’s relationship with India.
The committee is due to meet again on 14 July when it will further consider aspects of its inquiry into New Zealand’s relationship with India. It will also consider the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Defence and Vote Defence Force, and Vote Foreign Affairs and Trade and Vote Official Development Assistance.
Government Administration
The committee met on 5 July and deliberated on the Statutes Amendment Bill (No 2); the committee’s report has been presented to the House and is now available on the Parliament website.
The committee also met on 6 July to hear evidence from the Minister of Statistics on the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Statistics. In addition, the committee considered the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Internal Affairs, Vote State Services, and Vote Women’s Affairs. The committee met on 4 July to hear evidence on the Freedom Camping Bill.
The committee also met on 7 July to hear evidence on the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, and Vote Conservation. The committee also considered the Local Government Borrowing Bill, and the Freedom Camping Bill. The committee also further considered the petitions of P Findlay, and Maureen Pugh.

The committee met on 7 July to consider the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Agriculture, and Vote Forestry, Vote Biosecurity, and Vote Food Safety, the petition of Doetie Keizer van der Wal, and the National Animal Identification and Tracing Bill. The committee initiated two further items of business; a briefing on agricultural development in the Waitaki Basin and Mackenzie Country, and a briefing on the 2011 Ballance farm environment awards.
Regulations Review
The committee met on 7 July to consider its investigations into orders in council made under the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act 2011 and under the Canterbury Earthquake Response and Recovery Act 2010, and recently promulgated statutory regulations.

Social Services
