The committee met 10 December to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of Genesis Energy Limited, and Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation. They also considered the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Economic Development, the petition of John Andrew Dickson, the Motor Vehicles Sales Amendment Bill, the Radio New Zealand Amendment Bill and the Fair Trading (Soliciting on Behalf of Charities) Amendment Bill. They heard evidence on the Report from the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment on Smart electricity meters: How households and the environment can benefit and their inquiry into finance company failures.
The committee will next meet on 15 December to consider the Radio New Zealand Amendment Bill.

Finance and Expenditure
The committee met on 9 December to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of The Treasury and the financial statements of the Government of New Zealand for the year ended 30 June 2009. It met again on 10 December to hear evidence from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand on the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s monetary policy statement, December 2009.

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
The committee met on 9 December to consider the 2008/09 financial review of the New Zealand Defence Force, the Ministry of Defence, and the New Zealand Antarctic Institute, as well as four international treaty examinations; the New Zealand-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement (including annexes Vols 1 and 2), the New Zealand-Malaysia Agreement on Labour Cooperation, the New Zealand-Malaysia Agreement on Environmental Cooperation, and the Exchange of Letters constituting an Agreement between the Government of New Zealand and the Government of Malaysia on the treatment of Alcoholic Beverages in the New Zealand-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement. It also heard evidence and considered a briefing on the Tamil People in Sri Lanka, and considered the petitions of Uma Naguleswaran, Mani Maniparathy, f Dr Mei Meiyalaghan, Ramesh Manicavasagar, and Neil Ahilakumaran. It heard evidence on and considered a briefing on Major Defence Acquisitions, both Projects 1 and 2, and considered the inquiry into New Zealand's relationships with South Pacific countries.
The committee will next meet on 16 December to hear evidence and consider a briefing on Major Defence Acquisitions Projects 1 and 2, consider a briefing on the Tamil People in Sri Lanka, consider the same five petitions, as well as its inquiry into New Zealand’s relationships with South Pacific countries.

The committee met on 9 December to hear evidence and consider the 2008/09 financial review of Archives New Zealand, and the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs. It also considered the 2008/09 financial review of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Department of Internal Affairs, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, the Office of the Ombudsmen, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives, the Parliamentary Service, Statistics New Zealand, the New Zealand Fire Service Commission, Sport and Recreation New Zealand, the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Board, the New Zealand Film Commission, the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (Pouhere Taonga), the New Zealand Lotteries Commission, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Drug Free Sport New Zealand, and the Office of Film and Literature Classification.

The committee will next meet on 16 December to consider its inquiry into early detection and treatment of prostate cancer, and hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand.
Justice and Electoral
The committee met on 10 December to consider the Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Bill, the Search and Surveillance Bill, the petitions of Neale McMillan, Jane Prichard, and Penelope Mary Bright. It also considered the 2008/09 financial reviews.

The committee met on 10 December to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Department of Conservation, and non-departmental appropriations for the NZ Biodiversity Advisory Fund, and Identification and Implementation of Protection for Natural and Historic Places. It also considered a number of petitions.

The committee met on 9 December to consider the petition of Peter Henry Edward Bloomer, the Ngāti Apa (North Island) Claims Settlement Bill, the Whanganui Iwi (Wanganui (Kaitoke) Prison and Northern Part of Wanganui Forest) On-account Settlement Bill, the Waikato-Tainui Claims (Waikato River) Settlement Bill, and the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Māori Development. It also considered its inquiry into the tobacco industry in Aotearoa and the consequences of tobacco use for Māori, and its inquiry into the financial performance and current operations of Māori Television Service for the financial year ending 30 June 2009.

It will also consider the 2008/09 financial review of the Department of Building and Housing, and a number of other financial reviews.
Transport and Industrial Relations
The committee met on 10 December to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Accident Compensation Corporation, and the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand. It also heard further evidence on the Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation and Compensation Amendment Bill.
