The committee met on 24 September to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Securities Commission and to consider the Regulatory Improvement Bill and the Radio New Zealand Amendment Bill.

The committee will next meet on 15 October to consider the Patents Bill, the Motor Vehicle Sales Amendment Bill, the Regulatory Improvement Bill, and the Radio New Zealand Amendment Bill.

Education and Science

The committee met on 23 September to consider the Education (Polytechnics) Amendment Bill, the Student Loan Scheme (Exemptions and Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Bill, and the petitions of Aaron Gilmore, Ngahuia Nuri and Sue Kedgley.

The committee will not be meeting next week.

Finance and Expenditure

The committee met on 23 September to consider further the Taxation (Consequential Rate Alignment and Remedial Matters) Bill and the Methodist Church of New Zealand Trusts Bill.

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade

The committee meet on 24 September to consider and hear submissions on the Cluster Munitions (Prohibition) Bill, to hear submissions on the International treaty examination: United Nations Convention against Corruption, and to receive a briefing from the New Zealand Baha’i community. It also considered the 2008/09 financial reviews.

Local Government and Environment

The committee met on 24 September to hear evidence on the Public Works (Offer Back of and Compensation for Acquired Land) Amendment Bill and the Sustainable Biofuel Bill, and to consider three petitions regarding the location of cellphone towers.

The committee will next meet on 15 October.

Māori Affairs

The committee met on 23 September to consider its briefing on Māori educational achievement and its inquiry into the operation of the Maori Community Development Act 1962 and related issues. It also considered the petition of Peter Henry Edward Bloomer and heard evidence on its briefing on the use of tobacco by Māori.

The committee will not meet next week.
