Commerce
The committee met on 21 June 2012 to consider and conduct hearings of evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Economic Development and Vote Tourism, and conduct hearings of evidence on the Financial Markets Conduct Bill.
The committee will next meet on 28 June to consider and conduct hearings of evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Communications and Vote Consumer Affairs, consider and conduct hearings of evidence on the Financial Markets Conduct Bill, and further consider the Consumer Law Reform Bill.
Education and Science
The committee met on 20 June 2012 to consider and hear evidence from the Hon Steven Joyce on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Tertiary Education and Vote Science and Innovation, as well as the inquiry into 21st century learning environments.
Next week the committee will meet on 27 June to consider and hear evidence from the Hon Hekia Parata on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Education and Vote Education Review Office. The committee will also consider other business.
Finance and Expenditure
The committee met on 20 June 2012 to hear evidence from the Minister of Revenue on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Revenue, and the Speaker of the House on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Audit.
The committee will next meet on 27 June to hear evidence from the Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Canterbury Earthquake Recovery.
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
The committee did not meet this week.
Next week the committee will consider the Defence Amendment Bill, the petition of Edwina Hughes and 904 others, and the Convention between New Zealand and Canada for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income. The committee will also hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Defence, Vote Defence Force, Vote Veterans’ Affairs – Defence Force, and Vote Veterans’ Affairs – Social Development.
Government Administration
The committee met on 20 June 2012 and heard evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Prime Minister and Cabinet, Vote Internal Affairs: Ministerial Services and Vote Arts, Culture and Heritage.
Health
The committee met on 20 June 2012 to further consider the Natural Health Products Bill and the petition of Wendy Matthews.
The committee will next meet on 27 June to further consider the Medicines Amendment Bill.
Justice and Electoral
The committee met on 21 June to hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Courts, and Vote Justice. It also heard evidence on its briefing into the activities of the Judicial Conduct Commissioner in 2010/11. The committee considered the Victims’ of Crime Reform Bill, and the petition of Peter McKenzie on behalf of the Barnabas Fund (NZ).
The committee will meet next on 28 June, when it will hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Attorney-General and Vote Parliamentary Counsel Office. The committee will also hear further evidence on its inquiry into the 2011 general election. These hearings will be open to the public. The committee will also consider the petition of Peter McKenzie on behalf of the Barnabas Fund (NZ).
Law and Order
The committee met on 20 June 2012 to hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Corrections, Vote Police, and Vote Serious Fraud Office. The committee also considered the petition of Tracey Marceau on behalf of Christie’s Law Group and 58,000 others.
The committee will meet next on 27 June to consider the Corrections Amendment Bill, and the Administration of Community Sentences and Orders Bill.
The committee will conduct a site visit to Spring Hill Corrections Facility, on Friday, 29 June, as part of its briefing on Rehabilitation and Reintegration Services, and to Counties-Manukau Police as part of its briefing from New Zealand Police on the Prevention First strategy.
Local Government and Environment
The committee met on 21 June 2012 to further consider the report from the Controller and Auditor-General, Local government: Results of the 2010/11 audits, the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, the petition of Metiria Turei, the Building Amendment Bill No.4, the Hutt City Council (Graffiti Removal) Bill, and the South Taranaki District Council (Cold Creek Rural Water Supply). The committee also heard evidence from submitters on the Game Animal Council Bill.
The committee will hear evidence from submitters on the Building Amendment Bill (No.4) at the next meeting on 28 June.
Māori Affairs
The Māori Affairs Committee met on 20 June 2012 to hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Māori Affairs from the Minister of Māori Affairs and on its inquiry into the determinants of wellbeing for Māori children.
When the committee next meets on 26 June it will hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Māori Affairs from the Minister for Whānau Ora.
When the committee meets on 27 June it will hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Treaty Negotiations and on its inquiry into the determinants of wellbeing for Māori children. These hearings will be open to the public. It will also consider the Ngāti Manuhiri Claims Settlement Bill and the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Claims Settlement Bill.
Primary Production
The committee met on 21 June 2012 to consider and hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Primary Industries and Vote Lands. The committee also considered the petition of G R Hughey.
The committee will next meet on 28 June to hear evidence and consider the petition of G R Hughey.

Social Services
The committee met on 20 June 2012 to consider and hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Senior Citizens, and Vote Internal Affairs: Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector. Hon Jo Goodhew, the Minister for Senior Citizens, appeared to give evidence on Vote Senior Citizens, and again appeared in her capacity as Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector to give evidence on Vote Internal Affairs: Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector. The meeting was open to the public during both hearings of evidence. The committee also considered the Child Support Amendment Bill.
The committee has concluded its consideration of its inquiry into the identification, rehabilitation, and care and protection of child offenders, presenting a report on the inquiry to the House on 20 June 2012. The report contains 31 recommendations to the Government. A Government response to the recommendations is due on 12 September 2012. A copy of the report is available on the Parliament website=.
The committee is scheduled to next meet on 27 June to further consider and hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Housing. Hon Maurice Williamson, the Minister for Building and Construction, is scheduled to appear to give evidence from 11.35am to 12.20pm. The meeting will be open to the public during the hearing of evidence. The committee will also further consider the Child Support Amendment Bill, three petitions, and its inquiry into boarding houses in New Zealand.
Transport and Industrial Relations
The committee met this week on 21 June 2012 to hear evidence from the Hon Gerry Brownlee on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Transport, as well as hear evidence on the Immigration Amendment Bill.
Next week the committee will meet on 27 June to hear evidence from the Hon Kate Wilkinson on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Labour, and on 28 June to hear evidence on the Immigration Amendment Bill.
