Commerce
The committee met on 29 October to hear evidence on the report from the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment on Smart electricity meters: How households and the environment can benefit, the 2008/09 financial review of the Meteorological Service of New Zealand Limited, and consider the Patents Bill, the Motor Vehicle Sales Amendment Bill, and the 2008/09 financial review of the Securities Commission.
The committee will next meet on 19 November 2009.
Education and Science
The committee met on 28 October to consider the Student Loan Scheme (Exemptions and Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Bill, the Carter Observatory Act Repeal Bill, and the Education (Freedom of Association) Amendment Bill. It also considered the 2008/09 financial reviews as well as the petitions of Damien O’Connor, Maryan Street and Kathryn Sclater.
Finance and Expenditure
The committee met on 27 October to continue to hear evidence on the Climate Change Response (Moderated Emissions Trading) Amendment Bill, and on 28 October to consider the bill and other items of business before it.
The committee will next meet on 9 November to consider the Climate Change Response (Moderated Emissions Trading) Amendment Bill, and again on 11 November to continue its consideration of the bill, and to hear evidence from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand on its financial stability report, November 2009.
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
The committee meet this week on 29 October to consider and hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the New Zealand Customs Service, the2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and to consider the Cluster Munitions (Prohibition) Bill, the international treaty examination of the New Zealand-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement (including annexes Vols 1 and 2), the New Zealand-Malaysia Labour Cooperation Agreement, the New Zealand-Malaysia Agreement on Environmental Cooperation and the Exchange of Letters constituting an Agreement between the Government of New Zealand and the Government of Malaysia on the treatment of Alcoholic Beverages in the Malaysia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.

The committee met on 28 October to consider the Border (Customs, Excise, and Tariff) Processing Bill, the petition of Tony Ciani, and the 2008/09 financial reviews.
Health
The committee met on 28 October to hear further evidence on its inquiry into early detection and treatment of prostate cancer and to further consider the 2008/09 financial reviews.

The committee met on 29 October to consider the Limitation Bill, the Electoral (Administration) Amendment Bill, the petitions of Timothy Grigg and Neale McMillan, and the 2008/09 financial reviews.

Local Government and Environment
The committee met on 29 October to hear evidence on the Public Works (Offer Back of and Compensation for Acquired Land) Amendment Bill, the Sustainable Biofuel Bill, and the 2008/09 financial review of the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment. It also considered the petition of Alan James Bell.
The committee will next meet on 19 November.
Māori Affairs
The committee met on the 28 October to consider three inquiries; the inquiry into the operation of the Māori Community Development Act 1962 and related issues, the inquiry into the tobacco industry in Aotearoa and the consequences of tobacco use for Māori, and the inquiry into the financial performance and current operations of Māori Television Services for the year ending 30 June 2009. It also considered the briefing on Māori educational achievement as well as the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Māori Development (Te Pūni Kokiri).
The committee will next meet on 18 November.
Primary Production
The committee met on 29 October to consider the 2008/09 financial reviews of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Fisheries, Land Information New Zealand, the New Zealand Food Safety Authority, Animal Control Products, Landcorp Farming Limited, and Quotable Value Limited, as well as the 2008/09 non-departmental appropriations for Control of TB Vectors, and Management of Crown Forestry Assets. It also considered the petition of David Mark Wills, and conducted a site visit to NIWA.
The committee will next meet on 19 November.

The committee met on 29 October to consider recently promulgated statutory regulations and deemed regulations and regulation-making powers in the Border (Customs, Excise, and Tariff) Processing Bill.
The committee will next meet on 19 November to consider recently promulgated statutory and deemed regulations, the complaint regarding the Resource Management (Forms, Fees and Procedure) Amendment Regulations 2008 (SR 2008/73), and the Subordinate Legislation (Confirmation and Validation) Bill.
Social Services
The committee met on 28 October to consider the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families (Youth Courts Jurisdiction and Orders) Amendment Bill.
