It will also consider the Tariff (New Zealand Hong-Kong, China Closer Economic Partnership Agreement) Amendment Bill, and the international treaty examinations of the Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children; the Exchange of Letters between New Zealand and Australia Constituting an Agreement to Amend Article 3 of the Australia New Zealand Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement (“ANZCERTA”); and the Agreement to Amend the Product Specific Rules in Annex G of the ANZCERTA. The committee met on 23 June in Auckland to hear evidence on the inquiry into improving New Zealand’s environment to support innovation through clinical trial.
The committee will next meet on 30 June to hear evidence on the report from the Controller and Auditor-General on Performance audits from 2008: Follow-up report, and on the report from the Controller and Auditor-General on Effectiveness of arrangements to check the standard of services provided by rest homes. The committee will also consider the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Amendment Bill, and continue its consideration of the inquiry into how to improve completion rates of childhood immunisation, and the inquiry into early detection and treatment of prostate cancer.
Justice and Electoral
The committee met on 24 June to hear evidence on the visit of the Parliamentary Committee System Review Committee of the Queensland Parliament. The committee also considered the Trans-Tasman Proceedings Bill.
The committee will next meet on 1 July to consider the 2010/11 Estimates for Vote Justice, Vote Attorney-General, Vote Parliamentary Counsel, and Vote Courts. The committee will next meet on 1 July to consider the 2010/11 Estimates for Vote Local Government, Vote Environment, Vote Conservation, Vote Climate Change, and Vote Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment. It will also consider the Local Government Act 2002 Amendment Bill, and begin hearing evidence on this bill.
Māori Affairs
The committee met on 23 June to consider and hear further evidence on the 2010/11 for Vote Māori Affairs, and the inquiry into the tobacco industry in Aotearoa and the consequences of tobacco use for Māori.
