Auckland Governance Legislation

The committee met from 22 to 26 February in Auckland to hear evidence on the Local Government (Auckland Law Reform) Bill.

The committee will continue meeting in Auckland from 1 to 3 March at the Quality Hotel Barrycourt in Parnell to hear further submissions. The committee will meet in Wellington on 5 March to hear further evidence.

Commerce

The committee did not meet this week.

The committee will next meet on 18 March to consider the Patents Bill, and to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Public Trust, and the Standards Council.

Education and Science

The committee did not meet this week.

The committee will next meet on 17 March to consider the 2008/09 financial review of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, the New Zealand Teachers Council, Career Services, Landcare Research New Zealand Limited, and the Tertiary Education Commission.

Finance and Expenditure

The committee met on 24 and 25 February to hear evidence on the Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Bill, and continue its consideration of other items of business before it.

It will next meet on 11 March to continue hearing evidence on the Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Bill, and to hear evidence on the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s monetary policy statement, March 2010.

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade

The committee did not meet this week.

The committee will next meet on 18 March.

Government Administration

The committee met on 24 February to hear evidence on and consider the Statutes Amendment Bill, and to consider the 2008/09 financial review of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

The committee will next meet on 17 March to hear evidence on and consider the 2008/09 financial review of the New Zealand Historic Places (Pouhere Taonga). The committee will also consider the Statutes Amendment Bill, and the 2008/09 financial review of Sport and Recreation New Zealand, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Board, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Justice and Electoral

The committee met on 25 February to hear evidence on the Electoral (Administration) Amendment Bill, and the Search and Surveillance Bill. It also considered the Limitation Bill, and the Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Bill.

The committee will next meet on 18 March.

Law and Order

The committee did not meet this week.

The committee will next meet during the week of 15 March to consider the Sentencing and Parole Reform Bill.

Local Government and Environment

The committee did not meet this week.

The committee will next meet on 18 March to consider the Public Works (Offer Back of and Compensation for Acquired Land) Amendment Bill, and a number of petitions.

Māori Affairs

The committee met on 24 February in Ngaruawahia to hear evidence on the Waikato-Tainui Raupatu Claims (Waikato River) Settlement Bill.

The committee will next meet in the week beginning 8 March. It will hear evidence on its inquiry into the tobacco industry in Aotearoa and the consequences of tobacco use for Māori in Rotorua on 8 March, and in Auckland on 10 and 11 March. All hearings will be open to the public.
