The committee met on 2 June to hear evidence on the 2010/11 Estimates for Vote Education, Vote Education Review Office, Vote Crown Research Institutes, and Vote Research, Science and Technology. The committee also further considered the petitions of Aaron Gilmore, Sue Kedgley, and Hans Kriek.

The committee heard evidence from the Minister of Customs on the 2010/11 Estimates for Vote Customs.

The committee met on 3 June to hear evidence from the Minister of Local Government on the 2010/11 Estimates for Vote Local Government. It also heard evidence from the Ministry for the Environment on the report from the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment on How clean is New Zealand? Measuring and reporting on the health of our environment, and considered the petition of Maureen Pugh, and the report from the Controller and Auditor-General on Local authorities: Planning to meet the forecast demand for drinking water.
