Auckland Governance Legislation

The committee met on 25 August and 27 August to further consider the Local Government (Auckland Council) Bill.

Commerce

  • The committee met on 27 August to hear evidence the Patents Bill and to consider its briefing on finance company failures.
  • The committee will next meet on 10 September to hear evidence on the Regulatory Improvement Bill and to consider the Radio New Zealand Amendment Bill.

Education and Science

  • At its meeting on 26 August the committee considered the Education Amendment Bill and the Student Loan Scheme (Exemptions and Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Bill. The committee also considered petition 2008/25 of Dr Muriel Newman.
  • The committee will not be meeting next week.

Finance and Expenditure

  • The committee met on 26 August to hear evidence on the Taxation (Consequential Rate Alignment and Remedial Matters) Bill, and on 27 August to meet with a visiting delegation of the Audit Committee of the Finnish Parliament.
  • It will next meet on 9 September to continue its consideration of the Taxation (Consequential Rate Alignment and Remedial Matters) Bill and other items of business before it. It will also meet on 10 September to hear evidence on the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s monetary policy statement, September 2009.

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade

  • The committee met on 24 August to consider and hear submissions on the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Bill, and again on 27 August to consider the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Bill and meet with the Joint Standing Committee on the National Capital and External Territories from the Australian Commonwealth Parliament.
  • The committee meets next week on 2 September to consider the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Bill.

Health

  • The committee met on 26 August when it resumed consideration of petitions 2008/1 of Sally Fisher and 2008/9 of Juliet Pratt and of the inquiry into early detection and treatment of prostate cancer.
  • The committee is not meeting next week.

Justice and Electoral

  • The committee did not meet this week.
  • The committee will next meet on 10 September when it will consider the Crimes (Provocation Repeal) Amendment Bill, the Limitation Bill, the Sale and Supply of Liquor and Liquor Enforcement Bill, the Privacy (Cross-border Information) Amendment Bill, and the Inquiry into the 2008 general election.

Law and Order

  • The committee met on 26 August to consider and deliberate on Petition 2005/156 of Te Ururoa Flavell, and further consider the Corrections (Contract Management of Prisons) Amendment Bill.
  • The committee will next meet on 9 September to further consider the Corrections (Contract Management of Prisons) Amendment Bill and hold a hearing of evidence on the Report from the Controller and Auditor-General on Department of Corrections: Managing offenders on parole.

Local Government and Environment

  • The committee did not meet this week.
  • It will next meet on 10 September to begin hearing evidence on the Public Works (Offer Back of and Compensation for Acquired Land) Amendment Bill. The committee will also meet with a delegation from the Brazilian Senate and House of Deputies.

Māori Affairs

  • The committee met on 26 August to consider its briefing on Māori educational achievement and its inquiry into the operation of the Maori Community Development Act 1962 and related issues. It also considered the Maori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement (Regional Agreements) Amendment Bill, and the petition of Peter Henry Edward Bloomer.
  • The committee will not meet next week.

Primary Production

  • This week the committee considered the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill and the Aquaculture Legislation Amendment Bill (No 2).
  • The committee will not be meeting next week.

Regulations Review

  • The committee met on 27 August to consider recently promulgated statutory and deemed regulations, the complaint regarding Clause 61 (Fees) of the Medicines Regulations 1984, and regulation-making powers in the Regulatory Improvement Bill.
  • The committee will next meet on 10 September to consider recently promulgated statutory and deemed regulations and the complaint regarding the Resource Management (Forms, Fees and Procedure) Amendment Regulations 2009.

Social Services

  • The committee met on 26 August to consider the Social Assistance (Payment of New Zealand Superannuation and Veteran’s Pension Overseas) Amendment Bill, the Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill, and the Unit Titles Bill.
  • The committee will not be meeting next week.

Transport and Industrial Relations

  • At its meeting on 27 August the committee considered the Land Transport (Enforcement Powers) Amendment Bill and the Vehicle Confiscation and Seizure Bill. At its next meeting on 8 September the committee will consider these two bills further.
