Commerce
The committee met on 26 November to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Accounting Standards Review Board, and the Ministry of Economic Development, and to consider the Motor Vehicle Sales Amendment Bill.

The committee meet on 25 November to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Education, the non-departmental appropriations for Curriculum support, School Transport, Supporting Parenting, and Tertiary and International Advisory Services, the Education Review Office, the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology, the non-departmental appropriations for Engaging New Zealanders with Science and Technology, International Science and Technology Linkages, Marsden Fund, and Supporting Promising Individuals, and the National Library of New Zealand. The committee also considered the Petition of Maryan Street, and the report of the Controller and Auditor-General on Ministry of Education: Managing support for students with high special educational needs.
Finance and Expenditure
The committee met on 25 November to consider the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s financial stability report, November 2009.
The committee will next meet on 9 December to hear evidence on the Financial statements of the Government of New Zealand for the year ended 30 June 2009, and the 2008/09 financial review of The Treasury. It will also further consider other items of business before it.
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
The committee met on 26 November to consider the Antarctica (Environmental Protection: Liability Annex) Amendment Bill. The bill was reported to the House on 26 November. The committee also considered the Cluster Munitions (Prohibition) Bill, heard evidence on four international treaty examinations; the New Zealand-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement (including annexes Vols 1 and 2), the New Zealand-Malaysia Agreement on Labour Cooperation, the New Zealand-Malaysia Agreement on Environmental Cooperation, and the Exchange of Letters constituting an Agreement between the Government of New Zealand and the Government of Malaysia on the treatment of Alcoholic Beverages in the New Zealand-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement, and considered two briefings on Major Defence Acquisitions; both Projects 1 and 2.

The committee met on 26 November to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Justice. It also considered the Limitation Bill, the Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Bill, the petitions of Neale McMillan, Timothy Grigg, and Jane Prichard, and the 2008/09 financial review of the Crown Law Office, the Privacy Commissioner and the Electoral Commission.
The committee will next meet on 10 December to consider the Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Bill, the Search and Surveillance Bill, the petition of Penelope Mary Bright, and the 2008/09 financial reviews.

The committee met on 26 November to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry for the Environment as well as the non-departmental appropriations for Contaminated Sites Remediation Fund, Rotorua Lakes Restoration Programme, and Sustainable Management Fund.

Māori Affairs
The committee met on 25 November to consider the petition of Peter Henry Edward Bloomer, the Whanganui Iwi (Wanganui (Kaitoke) Prison and Northern Part of Wanganui Forest) On-account Settlement Bill, and the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Māori Development (Te Pūni Kokiri). It also received a briefing on bariatric surgery and its benefits to Māori.

The committee also met on 25 November to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Social Development, and to consider a number of other financial reviews and the report of the Controller and Auditor-General on Ministry of Social Development: Changes to the case management of sickness and invalids’ beneficiaries.
