Education and Science
The committee meet on 11 November to further consider the Education (Polytechnics) Amendment Bill and the 2008/09 financial reviews and the Carter Observatory Act Repeal Bill. The committee reported the Carter Observatory Act Repeal Bill to the House on 12 November.
Finance and Expenditure
The committee met this week on 9 November to consider the Climate Change Response (Moderated Emissions Trading) Amendment Bill, and again on 11 November to continue its consideration of the bill, and to hear evidence from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand on its financial stability report, November 2009.
The committee will next meet on 18 November to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of Television New Zealand, and the Inland Revenue Department, and to continue its consideration of other items of business before it.
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade

The committee will next meet on 19 November to consider and hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the New Zealand Defence Force, and the Ministry of Defence, to consider the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the New Zealand Customs Service, and the New Zealand Antarctic Institute, and to consider the Cluster Munitions (Prohibition) Bill, and Antarctica (Environmental Protection: Liability Annex) Amendment Bill.

Local Government and Environment
The committee did not meet this week.
The committee will next meet on 19 November to hear evidence on two briefings, on capital projects identified in 2009-18 long-term council community plans, and from the Department of Internal Affairs on the local government aspects of its 2008/09 annual report. It will also consider the Sustainable Biofuel Bill and three petitions relating to the location of cellphone towers.
Māori Affairs
The committee did not meet this week.
The committee will next meet on 18 November to consider the inquiry into the tobacco industry in Aotearoa and the consequences of tobacco use for Māori. It will also consider and hear evidence on the inquiry into the financial performance and current operations of Māori Television Service for the year ending 30 June 2009, and the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Māori Development (Te Puni Kōkiri). Both hearings of evidence will be open to the public.
