Committee notes

Commerce

The committee will next meet on 8 November to hear evidence on the petition of Dr Russel Norman and will conduct the financial review of the Standards Council. The committee will also continue consideration of the Electricity (Disconnection and Low Fixed Charges) Amendment Bill and the Limited Partnerships Bill.

Education and Science

The committee will meet on 7 November when it will consider its inquiry into making the schooling system work for every child. The committee will hear a briefing on the Maori Education Strategy, and hear evidence as part of its financial review of the National Library.

Finance and Expenditure

The committee did not meet this week. It meets next week on 7 November to continue its consideration of the Taxation (Annual Rates, Business Taxation, KiwiSaver, and Remedial Matters) Bill, and to hear further evidence on the inquiry into the future monetary policy framework.

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade

The committee did not meet this week.

The committee next meets on 8 November to conduct the hearing of evidence for the 2006/07 financial review of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and will continue hearing evidence on its inquiry.

Government Administration

The committee did not meet this week.

The committee next meets on 7 November to again consider the Gambling Amendment Bill (No 2), the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Bill, and the Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships Registration Amendment Bill as well as the 2006/07 financial reviews of the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs and Statistics New Zealand.

Health

At its next meeting on 7 November the committee will consider further the Misuse of Drugs (Classification of BZP) Amendment Bill and hear evidence on the financial review of the Ministry of Health.

Justice and Electoral

The committee met on 29 October and 1 November to consider the Electoral Finance Bill. It will meet next on 5 November to further its consideration of this bill.

Law and Order

The committee met on 31 October to consider the Corrections (Mothers with Babies) Amendment Bill.

The committee will meet next week on 7 November to consider the Corrections (Mothers with Babies) Amendment Bill, conduct 2006/07 financial review hearings of the New Zealand Police and Department of Corrections, and consider the Arms Amendment Bill (No 3) and the Young Offenders (Serious Crimes) Bill.

Local Government and Environment

On Thursday 8 November the committee will hear evidence on the 2006/07 financial review of the Department of Conservation, and on the Waste Minimisation (Solids) Bill. It will further consider a petition on seabed mining.

Māori Affairs

The committee will next meet on 7 November to continue its consideration of its inquiry into Māori participation in early childhood education and to conduct the financial review of Te Puni Kōkiri.

Primary Production

The committee will meet on 8 November when it will conduct the financial reviews of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Fisheries.

Regulations Review

The committee will next meet on 7 November to scrutinise statutory and deemed regulations, consider the Subordinate Legislation (Confirmation and Validation) Bill (No 3), and consider the Inquiry into the ongoing requirement for regulations and their impact.

Social Services

On 7 November the committee will meet in Christchurch to hear evidence on its inquiry into youth sex offenders.

Transport and Industrial Relations

The committee will next meet on 8 November to continue hearing evidence on the Immigration Bill.
