The committee met on 19 November to hear evidence on the report from the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment on Smart electricity meters: How households and the environment can benefit and its inquiry into finance company failures. The committee met on 17 November to consider the Border (Customs, Excise, and Tariff) Processing Bill. This bill was reported to the House on the same day. The committee met again on 18 November to consider the Inquiries Bill, and the 2008/09 financial review of the Parliamentary Service, the State Services Commission, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, and the Office of the Ombudsmen.

The committee met on 18 November to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Health. It resumed hearing of evidence on its inquiry into early detection and treatment of prostate cancer, as well as the petition of Jennifer Maree Hooper.

It also considered the Sustainable Biofuel Bill, and three petitions relating to the location of cellphone towers.
The committee will next meet on 26 November to hear evidence on the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry for the Environment, as well as the non-departmental appropriations for the Contaminated Sites Remediation Fund, Rotorua Lakes Restoration Programme, and the Sustainable Management Fund.
Māori Affairs
The committee met on 18 November to consider the Ngāti Apa (North Island) Claims Settlement Bill, the inquiry into the tobacco industry in Aotearoa and the consequences of tobacco use for Māori, and the inquiry into the operation of the Māori Community Development Act 1962 and related issues. It also considered and heard evidence on its inquiry into the financial performance and current operations of Māori Television Service for the year ending 30 June 2009, and the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Māori Development (Te Pūni Kokiri).
The committee will next meet on 25 November to consider the petition of Peter Henry Edward Bloomer, and the 2008/09 financial review of the Ministry of Māori Development (Te Pūni Kokiri). It will also receive a briefing on bariatric surgery and its benefits for Māori. This briefing will be open to the public.
