What we do

The Parliamentary Service provides a range of professional administrative and support services to members of Parliament and the House of Representatives. The Service is also responsible for the management of the Crown’s heritage buildings within the Parliamentary precinct.

Our mission

The Parliamentary Service’s mission is to:

  • provide effective, efficient and timely policy advice, administrative, and support services to meet the needs of members, parliamentary political offices, and the institution of Parliament.
  • fulfill the provisions of the Parliamentary Service Act 2000.

Our strategic objective

The Parliamentary Service’s have five strategic objectives that overarch our activities and help us provide a service that enables members to have confidence that they will be provided with the advice and support required to achieve their roles of legislators and representatives:

  • Improving Member and Party Satisfaction: by deliver the right services, in the right way, at the right time to improve the client experience of members and parties.
  • Improving Systems and Processes: systems and processes, which are intuitive and easy to use, aligned to support business needs.
  • Improving People Capability: highly skilled and engaged staff empowered to do a good job.
  • Increasing Productivity: achieving stretch business plan objectives within the resource and political constraints of Vote: Parliamentary Service.
  • Enhancing Stewardship of the Institution of Parliament: using active stewardship to achieve an enduring institution of Parliament for New Zealand citizens.
