Our mission

The Parliamentary Service’s mission is to:

• provide effective, efficient and timely policy advice, administrative, and support services to meet the needs of members, parliamentary political offices, and the institution of Parliament
• fulfil the provisions of the Parliamentary Service Act 2000.

Our key objective

The Parliamentary Service’s key objective is that:

’Members have confidence that they will be provided with the advice and support required to achieve their roles of legislators and representatives.’

Our services

The Parliamentary Service provides services to members of Parliament and the House of Representatives in the following areas.

Secretarial assistance

The Parliamentary Service provides executive secretarial services to members both within Parliament Buildings and in members’ out-of-Parliament offices.

Personnel and accounting

Our services in this area include:

• travel administration
• accounting services
• human resource services with staffing advice and support
• payroll processing
• bureau accounting and payroll services to other parliamentary offices

Research and information

The Parliamentary Service provides a range of research and information services including:

• library and electronic information services
• computing facilities
• computing and telecommunications advice to members.

Policy advice

The Parliamentary Service provides information, analysis, and advice to the Speaker.

Building management

The Parliamentary Service is responsible for the buildings in the parliamentary complex and the administration associated with their management and maintenance. Our services in this area include:

• building maintenance
• operational services for the buildings in the parliamentary complex
• property portfolio management services.

Operations management

The Parliamentary Service provides operations management services to assist members and staff. These services include:

• catering services
• cleaning services
• health and safety services
• messenger services
• purchasing management
• reception and telephone services
• security
• visitor services.
