History of the Wellington cenotaph

The cenotaph in Wellington.

20 Apr 15 Parliament became associated with Anzac Day commemorations in Wellington soon after the First World War. In 1920 the RSA erected a temporary wood and plaster cenotaph on the grass triangle at the junction of Molesworth Street and Lambton Quay. It was based on the iconic Whitehall cenotaph in London.
