Directions by the Speaker of the House of Representatives (No 2) 2010

These directions, which come into force on 1 January 2011, set out the details of:

  • the travel, accommodation, and communications services that are to be provided for members;
  • the funding entitlements of members and parties, in respect of which the Parliamentary Service is to administer payments;
  • the directions under which the Parliamentary Service must act when administering payments;
  • the principles to be applied by members and parties in their use of the publicly funded resources specified in this document;
  • entitlements to services and funding for certain electoral candidates in the period between the close of polling day and dates when the results of the election are declared.

This document replaces the Directions of the Speaker of the House of Representatives 2010 issued on 30 July 2010.

Significant changes in this edition include:

  • Alignment with the new definition of ‘funding entitlements for parliamentary purposes’ as introduced by the Parliamentary Service Amendment Act 2010.
  • Limitation on the use of the international travel rebate for members. The rebate may now be used to travel on parliamentary business with the approval of the Speaker.
  • Removal of the international travel rebate for members’ spouses and partners.
