Directions by the Speaker of the House of Representatives 2011

The current Speaker’s Directions came into force on 27 November, the day after the 2011 General Election. The Speaker’s Directions frame the members’ entitlements to funding and services as well as outlining how the Parliamentary Service must administer the entitlements to members.

The 2011 Directions incorporate specific changes affecting:

  • funding for Wellington accommodation for members whose home base is outside the Wellington commuting area
  • members’ information communications technology entitlements
  • support staff entitlements
  • support funding for staff of large electorates and new members (candidates for initial election).

An additional change to the Speaker’s Directions comes into effect on 1 July 2012 incorporating specific changes around Wellington accommodation expenses.

A consolidated version of the Directions, including the amendment, is available from the Downloads panel on the right. The amendment, including an explanatory note, is also downloadable separately.
