Further committee members appointed
Members of the Officers of Parliament Committee, Privileges Committee, and Standing Orders Committee have now been appointed for the 50th Parliament. Members of the 13 subject select committees and the Regulations Review Committee were appointed late in 2011.
The Officers of Parliament Committee oversees the officers of Parliament and recommends to the House whom it should appoint to these roles. Officers of Parliament include the Controller and Auditor-General, the Ombudsman, and the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment.
The Privileges Committee considers matters relating to parliamentary privilege, such as allegations of breach of privilege or contempt.
The Standing Orders Committee considers matters relating to the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives, including reviewing their operation every parliament, and other matters relating to the procedures and practices of the House.
Membership of select committees is determined by the Business Committee. You can view the determination setting out the membership of these committees under related documents on this page.
Committees generally choose their own chairperson and deputy chairperson. The Speaker is the chairperson of the Officers of Parliament Committee. The committee membership information on this website will show these office-holders once they are chosen.
You can find out about business before committees, committee reports, and committee meeting times on the select committee pages of this website.
