962 (2010). Lynne Pillay to the Minister of Police (includes responsibility for Serious Fraud Office) (09 Feb 2010): Why did Police advise a victim of indecent assault that her attacker was offering $200 to a charity and does she believe it is appropriate for Police to discuss such matters with a victim of crime?
Hon Judith Collins (Minister of Police (includes responsibility for Serious Fraud Office)) replied: The Policing Act 2008 requires that decisions on the manner in which Police respond to incidents are operational decisions for the Commissioner of Police. Police are obliged to advise victims of any offers of reparation made by a defendant. The question of reparation has no bearing on decisions as to whether or not to charge a defendant. Reparation is a matter for the Court to decide taking into account the victim's wishes.
