2504 (2010). Hon Darren Hughes to the Minister of Transport (19 Mar 2010): Is he concerned that with the Stratford to Okahukura line now closed, Fonterra now has to truck its milk products 200km further between Taranaki and the Port of Tauranga?
Hon Steven Joyce (Minister of Transport) replied: KiwiRail has asked its customers for their views on the future of the Stratford to Okahukura line. However, I understand that Fonterra continue to use rail rather than trucks to transport milk products from the Taranaki region, including finished product packed in containers from its Whareroa plant. Produce from Taranaki to Port of Tauranga is transported via Marton to the North Island Main Trunk line and then onto the East Coat Main Trunk to Tauranga.
