2492 (2010). Hon Darren Hughes to the Minister of Transport (19 Mar 2010): What consideration will be given to the higher environmental cost of road freight in comparison to rail when decisions on the future of the Napier-Gisborne line are made?
Hon Steven Joyce (Minister of Transport) replied: The Ministry of Transport has commissioned a project to assess the relative environmental costs of transport modes. KiwiRail will work with the Ministry on this project. In determining the future of any line, KiwiRail will consider all potential impacts of any decision to close the line before the decision is made.
