2501 (2010). Hon Darren Hughes to the Minister of Transport (19 Mar 2010): In considering the future of the Wairarapa line, will the Government be taking account of the fact that the railway line through the Manawatu Gorge is a vital link between the east and west coasts – particularly if the road through the gorge is taken out by a another major slip?
Hon Steven Joyce (Minister of Transport) replied: I am advised that consideration will be given by KiwiRail to all impacts in making a decision on the future of the Northern Wairarapa line.
