961 (2010). Lynne Pillay to the Minister of Police (includes responsibility for Serious Fraud Office) (09 Feb 2010): Does she believe that it is appropriate for Police to suggest to a victim of indecent assault that she should have “some compassion” toward her attacker and if not, what action will she take to ensure Police stop this practice?
Hon Judith Collins (Minister of Police (includes responsibility for Serious Fraud Office)) replied: The Policing Act 2008 requires that decisions on the manner in which Police respond to incidents are operational decisions for the Commissioner of Police. I am advised that Police have very clear policies and guidelines, developed in recognition of the Victims Rights Act 2002, around the management of and respect for victims.
