Hon Steven Joyce (Minister of Transport) replied: Recently KiwiRail used the Wairarapa Line when it diverted two freight services around a detrailment on the North Island Main Trunk south of Palmerston North. The company does not at present run any programmed services over the Northern Wairarapa corridor, although the line is occasionally used when work is being carried out on the Wellington urban section of the North Island Main Trunk.
