Commerce
The committee met on 24 May 2012 to conduct hearings of evidence on the Consumer Law Reform Bill, consider the 2010/11 financial review of Meridian Energy, and consider the Financial Markets Conduct Bill.

Education and Science
This week the committee met on 23 May 2012 to consider the inquiry into 21st century learning environments and digital literacy, and the petition of Judy Taligalu McFall-McCaffery and John McCaffery, and 6686 others.
Next week the committee will meet on 30 May to further consider the inquiry into 21st century learning environments and digital literacy, and consider the 2012/13 Estimates.
Finance and Expenditure
The committee met on 23 May 2012 to hear evidence on the Mixed Ownership Model Bill. The committee also met on 24 May to consider the 2012/13 Estimates.
The committee will next meet on 30 May to consider the Supplementary Estimates of Appropriation for the year ended 30 June 2012, amongst other items.
Government Administration
The committee met on 23 May 2012, and further considered the Members of Parliament (Remuneration and Services) Bill, the Electronic Identity Verification Bill, and the Statutes Amendment Bill (No 3). It also completed consideration of the petition of Donald James Rowlands and 891 others.
Health
The committee met on 23 May 2012 to consider and hear evidence on the Medicines Amendment Bill. The committee also further considered the 2010/11 financial reviews of the Pharmaceutical Management Agency, and the Capital and Coast, Hutt, and Wairarapa District Health Boards.
The committee also further considered its inquiry into preventing child abuse and improving children’s health outcomes, and the petitions of Alexander Milne and Jennifer Maree Hooper.
The committee also initiated a briefing on prostate cancer. The purpose of the briefing is to hear from the Ministry of Health on the progress being made towards implementing the recommendations from the committee’s inquiry into the early detection and treatment of prostate cancer.
The committee will next meet on 30 May to further consider and hear evidence on the Medicines Amendment Bill. The committee will also consider and hear evidence on the financial reviews of the Waitemata and Auckland District Health Boards. The committee will also further consider the financial reviews of the West Coast, Canterbury and Southern District Health Boards, and the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Health.
Justice and Electoral
The committee met on 24 May 2012 to hear evidence on the 2010/11 financial review of the Electoral Commission, and on its inquiry into the 2011 general election. The committee also considered the Privacy (Information Sharing) Bill, and the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims (2012 Expiry and Application Dates) Amendment Bill.
The committee will meet again on 31 May to hear evidence on its inquiry into the 2011 general election. The committee will also consider the Privacy (Information Sharing) Bill, the Victims of Crime Reform Bill, and the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims (2012 Expiry and Application Dates) Amendment Bill. It will also consider the 2010/11 financial reviews of the Abortion Supervisory Committee and of the Privacy Commissioner.
Law and Order
The committee met on 23 May 2012 to hear evidence on the Corrections Amendment Bill. It also considered the Administration of Community Sentences and Orders Bill, and the Bail Amendment Bill. Public submissions are invited on both these bills. Submissions close on the Administration of Community Sentences and Orders Bill on 22 June 2012, and on the Bail Amendment Bill on 29 June 2012.
The committee will meet again on 30 May when it will hear further evidence on the Corrections Amendment Bill, and consider the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Corrections, Vote Police, and Vote Serious Fraud Office.
Local Government and Environment
The committee met on 24 May 2012 to consider the 2010/11 financial review of the Environmental Risk Management Authority. The committee heard from submitters on the South Taranaki District Council (Cold Creek Rural Water Supply) Bill and the Game Animal Council Bill.
Next week, the committee will meet 31 May to hear further evidence on South Taranaki District Council (Cold Creek Rural Water Supply) Bill and the Game Animal Council Bill.
Māori Affairs
The Māori Affairs Committee met on 23 May 2012 to consider the Ngāti Mākino Claims Settlement Bill, the Ngai Tāmanuhiri Claims Settlement Bill, the Rongowhakaata Claims Settlement Bill, the Maraeroa A and B Blocks Claims Settlement Bill, and the Maraeroa A and B Blocks Incorporation Bill The committee also considered its inquiry into the determinants of wellbeing for Māori children.
