The committee met on 31 May 2012 to conduct hearings of evidence on the Consumer Law Reform Bill.
The committee will next meet on 7 June in Auckland to conduct hearings of evidence on the Financial Markets Conduct Bill at the Hotel Novotel Auckland Airport.
Education and Science
This week the committee met on 30 May 2012 to consider the inquiry into 21st century learning environments and digital literacy, the petition of Judy Taligalu McFall-McCaffery and John McCaffery and 6686 others, and the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Education, Vote Education Review Office, Vote Science and Innovation, and Vote Tertiary Education.
The committee will not be meeting next week.
Finance and Expenditure
The committee met on 30 May 2012 to consider the Mixed Ownership Model Bill, amongst other items of business.
The committee will next meet on 7 June to consider the Mixed Ownership Model Bill.
The committee will also meet on 13 June to hear evidence from the Minister of Finance on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Finance, and on 14 June to hear evidence from the Governor of the Reserve Bank on the Monetary Policy Statement to be issued that day.
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
This week the committee considered the Defence Amendment Bill, the petition of Edwina Hughes and 904 others, and the 2012/13 Estimates. The committee also received a briefing on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
The committee will next meet on 14 June.
Government Administration
The committee met on 30 May 2012 to consider the 2012/13 Estimates and decide which Votes it wished to review in detail.
Health
The committee met on 30 May 2012 to further consider and hear evidence on the Medicines Amendment Bill. The committee also considered and heard evidence on the 2010/11 financial reviews of the Auckland and Waitemata District Health Boards.
The committee also further considered the 2010/11 financial reviews of the Canterbury, Nelson Marlborough, South Canterbury, and West Coast District Health Boards, and the Mental Health Commission. The committee also considered the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Health.
The committee will next meet on 13 June 2012.
Justice and Electoral
The committee met on 31 May 2012 to hear evidence on the inquiry into the 2011 general election. The committee also considered the Privacy (Information Sharing) Bill, the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims (2012 Expiry and Application Dates) Amendment Bill, the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Attorney General, Vote Courts, Vote Justice, and Vote Parliamentary Counsel, the 2010/11 financial review of the Abortion Supervisory Committee, the petition of Naginbhai Neil Ghelabhai Patel and 881 others, and the petition of Tina Nilson and 988 others.

Law and Order
The committee met on 30 May 2012 to hear evidence on the Corrections Amendment Bill. It also considered the 2011/12 Estimates for Vote Corrections, Vote Police, and Vote Serious Fraud Office, and the petition of Tracey Marceau on behalf of Christie’s Law Group and 58,000 others.
The committee will not meet next week.
Local Government and Environment
The committee met on 31 May 2012 to consider the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Internal Affairs: Minister of Local Government, Vote Conservation, and Vote Environment. Also considered were the petition 2011/15 of Christine Rose, the petition 2011/16 of Christine Rose and the petition 2005/168 of Metiria Turei.
The committee heard from submitters on the South Taranaki District Council (Cold Creek Rural Water Supply) Bill and the Game Animal Council Bill.
The committee will meet again on 14 June to hear further evidence on the Game Animal Council Bill.
Māori Affairs
The Māori Affairs Committee met on 30 and 31 May 2012 to consider the Ngāti Manuhiri Claims Settlement Bill, the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Claims Settlement Bill, and to conclude its consideration of the Ngāti Mākino Claims Settlement Bill, the Ngai Tāmanuhiri Claims Settlement Bill, the Rongowhakaata Claims Settlement Bill, the Maraeroa A and B Blocks Claims Settlement Bill, and the Maraeroa A and B Blocks Incorporation Bill The committee also considered the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Māori Affairs and Vote Treaty Negotiations.
The committee will travel to Auckland on 6 June to hear evidence at Hoani Waititi Marae on its inquiry into the determinants of wellbeing for Māori children.
Primary Production
The committee met on 31 May 2012 to further consider the 2010/11 financial review of Landcorp Farming. The committee heard evidence from the Commerce Commission and further considered the Dairy Industry Restructuring Amendment Bill. The committee also considered the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Food Safety, Vote Lands, and Vote Primary Industries.
The committee will next meet on 14 June.
Regulations Review
The committee met on 31 May 2012 to further consider the complaint regarding the Legal Services Regulations 2011 (SR 2011/144), and to consider matters of general business.

Social Services
The committee met on 30 May 2012 to consider the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Social Development, Vote Housing, Vote Senior Citizens, and Vote Internal Affairs: Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector, and its inquiry into the identification, rehabilitation, and care and protection of child offenders.
The committee’s report on the Social Security (Youth Support and Work Focus) Amendment Bill was presented to the House on 29 May 2012. A copy of the report is available on the Parliament website (www.parliament.nz).
The committee will next meet on 13 June to consider and hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Housing; Hon Phil Heatley, the Minister for Housing, will give evidence from 9.15am to 9.45am. It will also consider and hear evidence on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Social Development; Hon Paula Bennett, the Minister for Social Development and Minister of Youth Affairs, will give evidence from 11.00am to 12.15pm, and Hon Peter Dunne, the Minister of Revenue, will give evidence from 12.15pm to 12.45pm. The meeting will be open to the public during all three hearings of evidence.
The committee will also consider the 2010/11 financial review of Housing New Zealand and the Social Workers Registration Board, as well as its inquiry into the identification, rehabilitation, and care and protection of child offenders.
Transport and Industrial Relations
This week the committee met on 31 May 2012 to consider the Immigration Amendment Bill, the petition of Richard Aslett and 7,436 others, and the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote ACC, Vote Employment, Vote Immigration, Vote Labour, and Vote Transport.
