Commerce
The committee meets next on 9 August to continue hearing submissions on the Inquiry into housing affordability.
Education and Science
The committee next meets on 8 August to hear from Judge Andrew Becroft as part of the committee’s inquiry into making the schooling system work for every child. The committee will also continue to hear submissions on the Education (Tertiary Reforms) Amendment Bill.
Finance and Expenditure
The committee meets next week on 8 August to hear evidence on the Taxation (Annual Rates, Business Taxation, KiwiSaver, and Remedial Matters) Bill. All hearings will be open to the public.
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
The committee next meets on 9 August to consider the Armed Forces Law Reform Bill, the International Financial Agreements Amendment Bill, the Terrorism Suppression Amendment Bill, the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, the 2005/132 petition of Peter McKenzie QC for the Barnabus Fund, its inquiry into New Zealand’s relationships with South Pacific countries, and will also meet with a United Kingdom delegation from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
Government Administration
The committee next meets on 8 August, when it will continue with hearings of evidence for the Births, Deaths, Marriages and Relationships Registration Amendment Bill, and further consider the Statutes Amendment Bill.
Health
At its next meeting on 8 August the committee will hear further evidence on the briefing on the Contract between the Ministry of Health and the Order of St John, hear evidence on petitions and consider further the two human tissue bills. The committee will also consider further the inquiry into obesity and type two diabetes.
Justice and Electoral
The committee will meet in Melbourne, Australia from 6 August to 10 August to gather information to inform its inquiry into victims rights, its consideration of electoral matters, the purchase of legal services for the crown, and other matters related to its subject area.
Law and Order
The committee met on 1 August to hear evidence on the Young Offenders (Serious Crimes) Bill, the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Bill and the Corrections (Mothers with Babies) Amendment Bill. The committee will next meet on 8 August to continue hearing evidence on the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Bill.
Local Government and Environment
The committee will meet on 9 August to hear evidence on a petition concerning Waiheke Island. It will also meet a delegation from the United Kingdom Parliament.
Māori Affairs
Next week the committee will meet on 8 August to hear evidence on the inquiry into Māori participation in early childhood education. The meeting will be open to the public between 10am and 12pm.
Primary Production
Next week the committee will meet on 9 August with the United Kingdom branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, and further consider the Fisheries Act 1996 Amendment Bill and the Farmers’ Mutual Group Bill.
Regulations Review
The committee will next meet on 8 August 2007 to scrutinise statutory regulations.
Social Services
The committee next meets on 8 August to continue hearing evidence on the inquiry into the quality and care of services provision for disabled people and how they might be improved.
Transport and Industrial Relations
This week the committee will hear further evidence on the Airport Authorities (Sale to the Crown) Amendment Bill, and will continue its consideration of the Minimum Wage and Remuneration Amendment Bill.
