Commerce

The committee met on 10 September to hear evidence on the Regulatory Improvement Bill and the petition of Suzanne Edmonds, and to consider the Radio New Zealand Amendment Bill.

The committee will next meet on 17 September to hear evidence on the Motor Vehicle Sales Amendment Bill.

Education and Science

The committee did not meet this week.

At its meeting on 16 September the committee will receive a briefing from the Chief Science Advisor to the Prime Minister. The briefing will be open to the public. The committee will also consider the Education (Polytechnics) Amendment Bill, the Student Loan Scheme (Exemptions and Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Bill, and the petitions of Aaron Gilmore and Ngahuia Nuri.

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade

The committee met on 7 September to consider the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Bill. It met again on 10 September to consider the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Bill, the Trade Marks (International Treaties and Enforcement) Amendment Bill, the Cluster Munitions (Prohibition) Bill, and to meet with a visiting Brazilian parliamentary delegation.

The committee will next meet on 17 September to consider and hear submissions on the Cluster Munitions (Prohibition) Bill, and hear submissions on the International treaty examination of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Government Administration

The committee met on 5 August and considered the Inquiries Bill.

Health

The committee met on 9 September to hear evidence on the petition of Jennifer Maree Hooper.

Māori Affairs

The committee did not meet this week.

The committee will next meet on 16 September to consider its briefing on Māori educational achievement and its Inquiry into the operation of the Maori Community Development Act 1962 and related issues. It will also consider the petition of Peter Henry Edward Bloomer and hear evidence on its briefing on the use of tobacco by Māori. This briefing is open to the public.

Primary Production

This committee undertook a site visit on 10 September to Landcorp’s Wairakei Estate near Taupo.

The committee will next meet on 17 September to hear evidence on the Report of the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment on Change in the high country: Environmental stewardship and tenure review, and to consider the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill and the Biosecurity Amendment Bill.

Regulations Review

The committee met on 10 September to consider recently promulgated statutory regulations and receive a briefing from Parliamentary Counsel Office regarding commencement orders and their role in making regulations.

The committee will next meet on 17 September to consider recently promulgated statutory and deemed regulations and the complaint regarding Clause 61 (Fees) of the Medicines Regulations 1984.

Social Services

The committee met on 9 September to consider the Social Assistance (Payment of New Zealand Superannuation and Veteran’s Pension Overseas) Amendment Bill and the Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill.

The committee will next meet on 16 September to further consider the Social Assistance (Payment of New Zealand Superannuation and Veteran’s Pension Overseas) Amendment Bill, and the Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill. The meeting will be closed to the public.
