Commerce
The committee this week and completed its consideration of the State-Owned Enterprises (AgriQuality Limited and Asure New Zealand Limited) Bill and reported to the House. The committee heard further evidence on the Major Events Management Bill and commenced hearing evidence on its inquiry into housing affordability in New Zealand. The committee will hear further evidence on both these items of business at next week’s meeting.
Education and Science
The committee met on 2 May to hear evidence on the 2005/06 financial reviews of the Teachers Council, and Career Services, and further considered that of the Tertiary Education Commission.
At its next meeting on 9 May the committee will hear evidence on the 2005/06 financial review of the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology, and will further consider those of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, and Career Services. It will also hear evidence on its inquiry into making the schooling system work for every child.
Finance and Expenditure
The committee met on 2 May to consider the Income Tax Bill. It also hosted a delegation from Commission XI (Banking and Finance) from the Indonesian Parliament.
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
The committee met on 3 May to consider the Armed Forces Law Reform Bill, its Pacific Inquiry, the 2005/87 petition of Poutama Tsoi and three treaties – Removal of Reservation to the Convention on all forms of Discrimination against Women, the Protocol on Explosive Remnants of War and the Amendment to the Convention on the Prohibition on use of certain conventional weapons.
The committee will next meet on 10 May to continue its consideration of the Armed Forces Law Reform Bill as well as the Removal of the Reservation to the CEDAW treaty.
Government Administration
The committee met on 2 May to consider the 2005/06 financial reviews of New Zealand Tourism Board, Sport and Recreation New Zealand, New Zealand Fire Service Commission, and the Office of Film and Literature Classification. The committee then continued its consideration of the Therapeutic Products and Medicines Bill.
The committee will meet again on 9 May to continue considering the Therapeutic Products and Medicines Bill as well as the 2005/124 petition of Mark Holmes and 42,034 others.
Health
At its meeting on 2 May the committee heard evidence on the Mental Health Commission Amendment Bill and considered further the inquiry into obesity and type two diabetes in New Zealand.
At its next meeting on 9 May the committee will hear further evidence on the Mental Health Commission Amendment Bill and continue consideration of its inquiry.
Justice and Electoral
The committee met on Thursday, 3 May 2007 to consider the Property Law Bill. It also heard evidence in relation to the Criminal Justice Reform Bill.
The committee will next meet on Monday, 7 May 2007 to finish hearing evidence on the Criminal Justice Reform Bill.
Law and Order
This week the committee met on 2 May to further consider the 2005/06 financial review of the Police Complaints Authority and a number of petitions, and continue hearings of evidence on the Young Offenders (Serious Crimes) Bill.
The committee will next meet on 9 May to continue hearings of evidence on the Young Offenders (Serious Crimes) Bill.
Local Government and Environment
The committee met on 3 May to hear evidence on the Building (Late Consent is a Free Consent) Amendment Bill and on the Waste Minimisation (Solids) Bill. It further considered the Waitakere Ranges Heritage Area Bill.

Māori Affairs
The committee met this week to hear evidence on the Te Roroa Claims Settlement Bill.
Next week the committee will meet on 8 May to hear further evidence and continue its consideration of this item; the meeting will be open to the public between 1.00pm and 1.20pm. The committee will also consider its inquiry into Māori participation in early childhood education.
Primary Production
The committee met this week on 3 May to hear submissions on the Fisheries Act 1996 Amendment Bill.
Next week the committee will meet on 10 May to consider the Fisheries Act 1996 Amendment Bill, the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Amendment Bill, and the committee’s ongoing examination of the restrictions on the importation of plant germplasm. The committee will also meet with a parliamentary delegation from Korea.

The committee met on 2 May and scrutinised statutory regulations, deemed regulations, considered the regulation making powers in the Therapeutic Products and Medicines Bill and the inquiry into the Ongoing Requirement for Individual Regulations and their Impact
The committee will next meet on 9 May to scrutinise statutory and deemed regulations, regulation making powers in the Therapeutic Products and Medicines Bill and the complaint regarding Dairy Industry Restructuring (Raw Milk) Regulations 2001 SR 2001/326).
Social Services
The committee met on 2 May to hear evidence on the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Amendment Bill. At its meeting on 9 May the committee will hear evidence on its inquiry into disability support services and how they might be improved. This meeting will be open to the public from 10.00am – 12.45pm.
Transport and Industrial Relations
This week the committee considered the Minimum Wage and Remuneration Amendment Bill, the Minimum Wage (Abolition of Age Discrimination) Amendment Bill, the Aviation Security Legislation Bill and the financial reviews of Transit New Zealand and the Civil Aviation Authority.
The committee will next meet on 10 May to hear evidence on the Aviation Security Legislation Bill and to consider the Minimum Wage (Abolition of Age Discrimination) Amendment Bill.
