The New Zealand Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) is inviting applications from young New Zealanders who are interested in representing New Zealand at Commonwealth Day in London on Monday 10 March 2014.

Applicants need to be aged between 18 to 25 years, have strong leadership skills, have an interest in Commonwealth and parliamentary affairs, and be already in London on Commonwealth Day.

The theme of this year’s Commonwealth Day is “Team Commonwealth”. The one-day programme will include:

  • discussions on the Commonwealth and the contribution of the CPA to parliamentary democracy
  • debates and presentations on current critical issues in the Commonwealth
  • attendance at the Observance at Westminster Abbey, with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Commonwealth High Commissioners present
  • possible attendance at the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s evening reception in the presence of Her Majesty.

To apply please use the email form on this page to send your name, age, occupation, and a short explanation of why you would like to represent New Zealand at Commonwealth Day 2014. The closing date for applications is Monday 13 January 2014 at 5 p.m.

The branch may nominate two attendees from New Zealand. Please note the successful applicants will need to meet all travel and accommodation costs associated with attendance at this event.

“Previous attendees of this special celebration of Commonwealth Day have found the experience extremely rewarding and we look forward to being able to provide this opportunity again to our emerging young leaders”, said Moana Mackey MP, Chairperson of the New Zealand CPA Branch.
