This week the House will go into Committee to hold the annual review debate. This debate is on the Government’s financial position and the previous financial year’s performance and current operations of Government departments and agencies and offices of Parliament.

This week in Parliament: 5 to 7 April 2016

After question time on Tuesday 5 April, the House is expected to progress a number of Bills that are waiting to be considered by the committee of the whole House (the Environment Canterbury (Transitional Governance Arrangements) Bill, the Te Pire mō Te Reo Māori / Māori Language Bill and the Drug and Alcohol Testing of Community-based Offenders, Bailees, and Other Persons Legislation Bill). On Wednesday after question time there will be a general debate.

This week in Parliament: 29 to 31 March 2016

After question time on Tuesday 29 March, the House is expected to progress the committee of the whole House stage of the New Zealand Business Number Bill. The committee of the whole House stage follows the second reading of a bill and allows MPs to examine a bill in detail and propose changes. Following this, the House will progress the first reading debates for two bills. On Wednesday after question time there will be a general debate. Each day, the House will debate the first three or four Government orders of the day.

Therefore, there will be no general debate this week. However, the Prime Minister’s Statement may be adjourned so the House can deal with other Government business.
