Petition of Andrew Crisp: Tiny/mobile dwellings as a permanent, healthy, affordable & dignified residence.

Published date: 6 Mar 2020

Petition request

That the House of Representatives pass legislation to recognise tiny/mobile dwellings as personal property (chattel dwellings); adopt a low-cost building standard & compliance framework; legitimise tiny/mobile dwellings as an affordable, safe, healthy, durable & permanent accommodation option; & secure enduring tenure for residents.

Petition reason

New Zealand has a serious housing crisis. Housing scarcity and affordability impacts a significant number of individuals and families, including beneficiaries, those living alone, low-waged workers & middle-income households. There is an urgent need for secure, safe, healthy & affordable housing. Tiny homes are an eco-lifestyle choice for many, however tiny/mobile dwellings can provide immediate, affordable & dignified housing for families as transitional or permanent residence in the community.
