Petitions

Petitions are addressed to the House of Representatives and ask that the House do something about a policy or law, or put right a local or private concern.

This page shows the petitions you can sign as well as petitions that are closed for signatures and have moved on to the next part of the process. You can also start a petition using the ‘Create a Petition’ button.

Petitions can be created by anyone and must be signed by at least one person.

Here's a tip if you're searching for petitions presented to Parliament before June 2011 using the select committee filter: You need to put the committee name into the keyword filter instead. The select committee filter won’t find petitions presented before June 2011.

If petitioners wish to extend their petition closing date, please email petitions@parliament.govt.nz.

Please be assured that the only way your name ends up on a petition is if you click the ‘Sign petition’ button and complete the form yourself. We apologise for any concern or confusion this is creating, and our IT team are working on this.
