New Zealand Intelligence and Security Bill

Public submissions are now being invited on the New Zealand Intelligence and Security Bill. The closing date for submissions is Friday 7 October 2016.

This bill implements the Government response to the Report of the First Independent Review of Intelligence and Security in New Zealand: Intelligence and Security in a Free Society, and replaces the four Acts that currently apply to the GCSB, the NZSIS, and their oversight bodies.

A copy of the bill can be viewed online.

Submissions should be forwarded by the due date, either online using our website ( or in writing to the address below. If a submitter wishes to appear before the committee, they need to state this clearly and provide a name, daytime phone number and email address. Submissions generally become public and are published on our website.
