Public submissions are now being called for the Overseas Investment (Urgent Measures) Amendment Bill
The closing date for submissions is 4 pm on Sunday, 17 May 2020
The Chairperson of the Finance and Expenditure Committee, Dr Deborah Russell, is calling for submissions on the Overseas Investment (Urgent Measures) Amendment Bill, which was referred to the committee on Thursday, 14 May 2020. The committee is required to report back to the House by Monday, 25 May 2020.
The Overseas Investment (Urgent Measures) Amendment Bill seeks to ensure that risks posed by foreign investment can be managed effectively while better supporting productive overseas investment by reducing the regulatory burden of the screening process. The Government considers the proposed changes need to be put in place urgently to mitigate the economic effects of COVID-19. It is the first of two bills seeking to make changes to Overseas Investment Act.
