Should children under 14, seniors over the age of 65, and vulnerable users be allowed to cycle on footpaths?

UPDATED 19 September 2016

Public submissions are now being invited on Petition 2014/59 of Joanne Clendon

The petition asks for a change to the New Zealand Road Rules to:

  • allow children 14 and under, seniors, and other vulnerable users to ride on the footpath

  • make bells compulsory for those riding on the footpath

  • teach "Share with Care" as part of bike training programmes

  • allow local bodies to restrict cycling on the footpath in busy areas

  • encourage education for drivers on driveway safety.

The committee heard from Joanne Clendon on 30 June 2016.
