Social Actions and Parliament

A resource designed for senior Social Science students focussing on social actions at Parliament.

The NZQA Achievement Standard 91599 'Examine personal involvement in social action(s) that aims to influence policy change(s)' encourages students to engage with a social issue and take actions designed to bring about change.  Parliamentary processes such as presenting a petition, making a submission to a select committee or contacting a member of Parliament to seek a policy change, can all be linked to this standard. This resource seeks to support students who wish to link Parliament to their chosen social actions seeking to influence a policy change.

Activities in this resource include:

  • vocabulary activities
  • types of social actions and their purposes
  • research on the different social actions connected to Parliament
  • what the Education Team can incorporate into an educational on-site tour.
