RNZ's The House
Last updated: 23 June 2026RNZ's The House is produced with funding from the Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives. It delivers insight and analysis into parliamentary news, issues, and legislation.
The House airs every sitting day at 6:55pm and 10:35pm, and on Sundays at 7:35am and 10.45pm. Each broadcast is also released in podcast form. Along with the broadcast programme, The House includes regular written content published on the RNZ website.
Among the topics covered are the work of select committees, an explanation of what a member’s bill is, a glimpse behind the scenes of Cabinet, and various debating styles of MPs. This type of parliamentary coverage has been funded by the Office of the Clerk since 1994, with the broadcasters retaining full editorial independence.
Clerk of the House, Dr David Wilson says that “it’s important that coverage of what happens at Parliament, whether it’s what’s happening in the House, in select committees or outreach efforts, is simultaneously engaging and informative. The House actively fills this role by providing comprehensive insight into legislation, parliamentary issues, and everything in between.”
The House is hosted by journalists Phil Smith and Louis Collins.
