Explore the new demonstration NZ Legislation website

Last updated: 28 November 2025

The Parliamentary Counsel Office (PCO) has made it even easier to explore the demonstration version of the New Zealand Legislation website. Now, users no longer need to log in to an account to access the demo site - just visit and start exploring!

Visit the demonstration website

Use the site with confidence, as it provides the same official legislation as legislation.govt.nz and is updated at the same time.

Why a demonstration website?

The PCO is building a single point of access to all New Zealand’s secondary legislation, through the NZ Legislation website. They are also improving and updating the website.

You can read about this mahi at Improving access to NZ legislation.

The demonstration website previews the changes so users can explore and share their thoughts.

New features to explore

If you have never visited the demonstration site, now is a great time to take a look. The new content and functionality includes:

  • new access to secondary legislation published by agencies, for the first time making thousands of pieces of secondary legislation published by nearly 100 government and non-government agencies searchable from a single website
  • mobile optimisation, designed to work whatever your screen size
  • a collapsible contents pane on the left-hand side of legislation to improve navigation
  • new filters that quickly refine your search results
  • improved display and filtering by legislation status
  • the ability to download XML and PDF files directly from URLs
  • newly digitised as-enacted versions of all pre-2008 New Zealand Acts.

The full list of updates is available on the demo site: What's new?

PCO wants your feedback

As the PCO continues to build and refine the site daily, they encourage users to provide feedback using the ‘Feedback’ pop-up on the right-hand side of any page. This tool captures the page being viewed, helping the PCO understand feedback in context.

The PCO encourages users to:

  • visit the demo site often
  • share it with colleagues and stakeholders
  • keep the feedback flowing.
