Global community sketching group exhibits at Parliament

Last updated: 11 December 2025

From Thursday 11 December – Sunday 19 April, Te Papakura will host Showing the City – One Drawing at a Time, an exhibition celebrating observation, creativity, and the art of sketching. It is presented by Wellington Urban Sketchers, a group part of a global network of over 500 chapters dedicated to capturing the world around us through on-location drawing.

The exhibition will feature over 100 original sketches, including unique perspectives of Parliament’s iconic architecture and glimpses from inside the buildings.

Visitors will not only enjoy the artistry on display but also have the chance to take part in an interactive experience. A dedicated colouring-in and activity table will invite guests of all ages to engage with the exhibition and explore their own creativity.

This is the first time Wellington Urban Sketchers have exhibited together as a group, and Showing the City coincides with their 10th anniversary. Many of the exhibited sketches will be available for purchase.

Join us at Parliament to celebrate the beauty of Wellington and the artistry of Urban Sketchers.
